Uses of Caricef Syrup 100mg
Caricef Syrup 100mg/5ml is primarily used to treat:
- Upper respiratory tract infections (including otitis media)
- Lower respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis)
- Urinary tract infections (cystitis, uncomplicated pyelonephritis)
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea
Dosage Information
Adults:
- Standard dose: 400mg daily (as a single dose or 200mg every 12 hours)
- For gonorrhea: Single 400mg dose
Children (6 months to 11 years):
- Recommended dose: 8mg/kg/day as single dose or divided into two doses
- For children weighing 31.4-37.5kg: 300mg daily (7.5ml of 200mg/5ml suspension)
- For children weighing 25.1-31.3kg: 250mg daily (6.25ml of 200mg/5ml suspension)
Important Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cefixime or other cephalosporins
- Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy
- May cause severe skin reactions (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
- Potential for encephalopathy risk, especially with renal impairment
- May affect prothrombin time in patients on anticoagulant therapy
