Uses of Caricef 400mg
Caricef 400mg is indicated for the treatment of:
- Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), including otitis media

 - Urinary tract infections (UTIs), including cystitis and uncomplicated pyelonephritis
 - Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral)
 
Dosage Information
For Adults:
- Standard dose: 400mg daily, taken as a single dose or divided into 200mg every 12 hours
 - Uncomplicated gonorrhea: Single 400mg dose
 - Treatment duration: Usually 7 days, up to 14 days if required
 - Streptococcal infections: Minimum 10-day treatment
 
For Children:
- Tablets not recommended for children under 10 years
 - For children 6 months to 11 years: 8mg/kg/day as a single dose or divided doses
 - Safety not established for children under 6 months
 
Special Populations:
- Elderly: Same dose as adults (monitor renal function)
 - Renal impairment (creatinine clearance <20ml/min): 200mg once daily
 - Can be taken with or without food
 
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cefixime or other cephalosporins
 
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting
 - Allergic reactions: Rash, itching
 - Nervous system: Headache, dizziness
