Dicloran Injection: Uses, Side Effects, and Dosage
Dicloran Injection contains Diclofenac Sodium 75mg, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relief in acute conditions. Available in Pakistan at Rs 275/- for a pack of 5 injections, it works quickly to relieve severe pain and inflammation.
Uses
Dicloran Injection is used for acute forms of pain, including:
- Renal colic
- Exacerbations of osteo and rheumatoid arthritis
- Acute back pain
- Acute gout
- Acute trauma and fractures
- Post-operative pain
- Prevention of post-operative pain in hospital settings
Dosage
- Intramuscular injection: One 75mg ampoule once daily (or twice daily in severe cases)
- For renal colic: One 75mg ampoule, with a possible second dose after 30 minutes
- Intravenous infusion: Must be diluted and administered over 30 minutes to 2 hours
- Maximum daily dose: 150mg
- Should not be given for more than two days
Effect Time
- Intramuscular: Absorption begins immediately with peak plasma concentration reached in about 20 minutes
- The drug has a short half-life of 1-2 hours in plasma
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Injection site pain and reaction
- Headache and dizziness
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
Serious side effects may include:
- Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration
- Cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke)
