Dicloran Injection: Uses, Side Effects, and Dosage

Dicloran Injection contains Diclofenac Sodium 75mg, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relief in acute conditions. Available in Pakistan at Rs 275/- for a pack of 5 injections, it works quickly to relieve severe pain and inflammation.

Uses

Dicloran Injection is used for acute forms of pain, including:

• Renal colic
• Exacerbations of osteo and rheumatoid arthritis
• Acute back pain
• Acute gout
• Acute trauma and fractures
• Post-operative pain
• Prevention of post-operative pain in hospital settings

Dosage

• Intramuscular injection: One 75mg ampoule once daily (or twice daily in severe cases)
• For renal colic: One 75mg ampoule, with a possible second dose after 30 minutes
• Intravenous infusion: Must be diluted and administered over 30 minutes to 2 hours
• Maximum daily dose: 150mg
• Should not be given for more than two days

Effect Time

• Intramuscular: Absorption begins immediately with peak plasma concentration reached in about 20 minutes
• The drug has a short half-life of 1-2 hours in plasma

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

• Injection site pain and reaction
• Headache and dizziness
• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• Abdominal pain

Serious side effects may include:

• Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration
• Cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke)
